Duffy London is a creative studio specialized in making furniture wizardry in a spacious studio in east London. Founded by Christopher Duffy in 2002, Duffy London’s designs ideas based in combining art and function and playing with unique concepts of gravity, geometry and illusion.
Chris Duffy has created this company with the aim to encourage inventive and exciting designs that aren’t pinned down by boundaries. He has had a love for designing and making things ever since he was a young child: “I was always making crazy bikes, karts and boats while everyone else was playing football. I remember my junior school teacher asking me what I wanted to do when I grow up, and I said that I wanted to be an inventor.” Chris’ inquisitive mind drove his ambition to create his own business.
The studio produce furniture, lighting and interior products which are designed mostly by the innovative and interactive Chris ideas but also from the help and contribution of his talented designers and manufacturers that turn these concepts into quality products. One of their functional tables.
Their products are as environmentally friendly as possible because it makes practical sense. Boasting strong eco-credentials, everything is handmade to order by skilled craftspeople in the UK, using sustainable wood and other eco-friendly materials and mediums. Manufacturing products locally keeps communication between the designer and manufacture quick and simple meaning they can develop products far more quickly than manufacturing abroad. They use recycled packaging which saves money and low energy light bulbs and electrics which last longer.
Duffy London is recognised by the press from the very beginning, appearing in most of the interior design magazines, newspapers and Sunday supplements across the world and even a few TV programmes. Duffy London big clients are BBC, Google, Gensler and many others.
He is known for his creative funny design. Starting with some particularly noteworthy designs are the Shadow Chair, that appears to defy gravity by standing on only two legs. The incredible UP Tables, which are a playful trompe l’oeil, giving the impression of a glass table top being suspended by balloons.
Then there are the LAB Lamps, looking like something a mad scientist put together with bits of lab equipment, and the delightful Swing Table, which will transport you back to your childhood.
And the famous Swing Table, that uses its structure to suspend a central, faceted lamp in addition to eight swing-like hanging chairs. Injecting a little extra fun into dinner time and boardroom meetings with swings and the benefit of making vacuuming a breeze.
